3 Must To Do’s before the New Year
Yep, 2015 is almost over
Yet, you still have time to closeout the year strong and have a gameplan for 2016.
It’s the holiday season so my gift to you is..
3 simple ideas to think ahead and jump start 2016
Attend a few Christmas Parties
We have less than a week before Christmas,
it has been crazy attending Christmas parties and planning for my own company party.
I know you are swamp with end of the year things you are trying to wrap up.
Who really has time to add something else to their calendar?
Well, I want to encourage you to attend at least three Christmas parties this year.
You may be saying what does this have to do about business?
I recall hearing season entrepreneurs say people like to do business with people they know, like and trust.
Makes sense right? Yes
Like any other event, you must go with a game plan on who you want to meet at the Christmas party.
The difference here is this is not about talking business at the Christmas party.
No No No
It is about you getting to know the person and them learning more about you.
Since we are in the holiday season,
you can easily break the ice by asking simple questions to get the conversation started.
Have you done all your Christmas Shopping?
Did you go out for Black Friday shopping?
Was there any good Cyber Monday deals?
Remember, you are not trying to close a deal.
You are starting the dating process for a long term relationship
that may blossom into something real big for you in 2016.
So, go ahead and get dressed up for that Christmas party you were dreading but remember to play it cool.
Through out the year, you are hustling in your business to get new customers,
build relationships with people that can help you grow your business,
hire the best employees,
provide exceptional service to your customers
and put out fires to retain customers.
A lot of times, companies forget throughout the year to show their appreciation to all those who have helped them grow their business.
Yet, this should be a continuous process throughout the year.
GREAT NEWS !
You still got time before the New Year.
Here are just a few ways I have tried to show my appreciation to our clients, employees and business partners.
Every year, we give our clients gift baskets to show how much we appreciate the opportunity to serve them.
Never forget, your customer has options to go elsewhere at any time therefore do not take them for granted.
Also, I host a Christmas party for our employees and business partners.
It is a time for everyone to dress up, eat, have fun, dance, take pictures and receive gifts.
Remember, it is not always about the gifts.
More importantly, people want to be recognized and appreciated.
Christmas is not here yet,
I encourage you to go out and get that Christmas card, gift cards, candy or make phone calls to tell them how much you appreciate them.
These small acts of appreciation for the work and support from your employees and business partners
will ignite them to continue to push your business forward in 2016.
90 Day Plan
This one is a toughie because…
I know you are busy , tired, still need to Christmas shop and
I’m telling you that you need to develop a 90 day game plan
for your business?
I know you are probably saying Darnell you are crazy!
Yes, that is what I’m telling you need to do
My grandma would say “The only way to get ahead is you first got to think ahead”.
Do you watch ESPN the sports network?
Often when they interview the head coach, you will normally hear them say,
“We will go back to the film, evaluate what we did right, wrong and then we will prepare for the next game”.
I follow a similar but simple process with my team to develop our game plan for 2016.
I ask my team three questions.
- What did not work and we need to Stop doing?
- What worked this year and we should Continue to do?
- What should we Start doing in the New Year?
As the leader, here are a few questions I ask myself and make tough decisions on before the New Year.
- Do I have the right people in the right position?
- How can we operate more efficiently?
- Where are the growth opportunities?
I challenge you to use those questions above
to help you think through your strategic and tactical activities to accomplish your 90 day plan.
I believe if you, attend a few Christmas parties with a game plan,
show appreciation to your network
and develop your 90 Day game plan, you will go into 2016
